Letting Agent Registration

As of the 1st October, all letting agents operating in Scotland should have registered their business on the Letting Agent Registration created by the Scottish Government to ensure best practice is applied across the lettings industry.

There is now a Letting Agent Code of Conduct by which all letting agents must adhere to and should any tenant or landlord feel failed by an agent, they can take them to tribunal over their actions. In order for agents to be applicable to register they must have completed a qualification ensuring best practice.

According to latest figures, there are a large number of letting agents who have yet to register.

Make sure your letting agent has as it is now an offence to be carrying out letting agency work without registration. For any queries relating to this new legislation you can contact Susan at susan@laidlawlettings.co.uk or on 01875 702071.
